Meet The Team

Owner
Chris Trembath
Chris, the son-in-law of New Hall's co-founders Bill & Sheila Greenwood, ensures the vineyard remains a true family business.
He has exciting plans for New Hall Wine Estate and is putting a new emphasis on sales of New Hall's wines and the promotion of the Crouch Valley wine region.
His favourite Wine from New Hall is the Purlai Gold, a delicious dessert wine that also pairs great with a cheese board.

Owner & General Manager
Becki Trembath
Becki is well versed with life on a working farm. She joined New Hall Wine Estate in 2016 after her Dad, Chris, took over the family business.
She is now the third generation of the family to be working at the vineyard.
Her favourite New Hall Wine is our Bacchus, and she is also partial to the Muller Thurgau on a warm summers day.

Vineyard Manager
Andy Hares
Multi-tasker Andy joined the New Hall Wine Estate family team in 2015 after serving an extensive wine apprenticeship around some of the best vineyards in Europe, including premier French red wine regions in Bordeaux and St Emilion.
His Main job is ensuring the fertility, maintenance and yield of the 122 acre of vineyard, which are tended by five permanent members of staff, and two part time colleagues, and a small army of more than 20 seasonal pickers during harvest.
He loves our Classic Cuvvee and in Winter can often be seen with a pint of Guinness.

Commercial Manager
Lucy Winward
Lucy arrived at New Hall Vineyard in 2015 at a time of transition for the business, following the change in ownership.
Lucy served her wine-making apprenticeship during her travels around Europe, working in leading wine centres such as Bergerac in France and has a First Class (Hons) BSc in Viticulture and Oenology and is WSET Level 3 certified.
She has helped grow the commercial side of the business to new heights, making strong community connections throughout the industry.
Lucy really enjoys a glass of our Barons Lane White Wine. Her other favourite tipple is a classic Bloody Mary, the more Tabasco the better!

Head Winemaker
Jacques Huysamer
Jacques started at New Hall Wine Estate in August 2023. He graduated from the University of Stellenbosch with a BSc Viticulture & Oenology. Six years of cellar and production roles in South Africa, followed by two years in cooler-climate Walker Bay focusing on premium still wine production, led to Jacques’ passion to drive strategic growth across our portfolio.
Crucially, his time at Piekensiersloof Wine Co. developed Jacques’ proficiency in leadership, large-scale production and experience with Old Vine blocks. ‘I’m passionate about maximising the unique expression of our English terroir through creative, site-specific winemaking”.
Jacques enjoys a glass of our Bacchus, one of our oldest plantations here at New Hall, and the first to be planted in the UK back in 1968.

Assistant Wine Maker
Sophia Joubert
I grew up among the vines on a farm in South Africa, surrounded by vineyards and winemaking from an early age. After my first harvest in Stellenbosch, I fell in love with the craft of winemaking and the people behind it, which led me to study winemaking and pursue it as a career.
Since then, I’ve been lucky enough to spend my time harvest hoping across different wine regions, working in South Africa, USA, Australia, France, and the UK. Each harvest has brought new experiences, different perspectives, and plenty of memories along the way.
I’m really excited for this next chapter in the Crouch Valley — getting to know the region, the people, and the potential of this special place. I can’t wait to be part of the journey ahead."

Leasing & Cellar Door Manager
Christine Rethman
From July 2026 we are delighted to welcome Christine to the team as our New Cellar Door Manager.
Here's what she has to say:
'With over 37 years of experience in the Wine Trade selling wines from around the world into Hotels, restaurants, and Gastro Pubs, I felt it was time to hang up my metaphorical stilettos!
However, it became very clear within weeks that I was missing all that is wine, which had been my working life, so I set about looking for a new opportunity that could offer me the buzz of being around wine without the pressure. When I saw the role of Cellar Door Manager I tiny bit lost my mind. I am so pleased I was offered the role and I am enjoying being part of the New Hall Estate Team.'

Warehouse Supervisor
James Roberts
James joined us in the Summer of 2024 and has extensive warehouse experience bringing a wealth of knowledge with him to keep us organised.
He has played an integral part of the team within his role here at New Hall, starting off with Harvest. James was very excited to get stuck in with the Vineyard team during his first Harvest at New Hall in 2024 to assist with the journey from field to bottle. He oversees our Wine bottles in their final stage by being labelled onsite in our Haybarn.
Since joining us, James has enjoyed sampling the New Hall wine collections, his favourite is our Single Estate Bacchus.

Sales & Operations Assistant
Jana Miklosova
Jana has been with New Hall Wine Estate since 2006, when it was run by Chris' brother-in-law Piers.
She has proved to be a integral part of the team ensuring Sales and Operations run smoothly. Jana also plays a vital part in our team during Harvest and works closely with our Warehouse Supervisor when it comes time to label our wines.
Her favourite wine to drink from New Hall is anything pink and bubbly! Which includes our English Rose Brut and our Railway Barn Sparkling Rose, both perfect for Summer days and celebrations.

Wine Ambassador
Paul Laurie
Pauls love for Hospitality began at 18 and he has been involved in the industry for over 20 years. He developed his in-depth understanding of food and wine while amassing a great CV of working at various places across Essex.
It was during this time that he completed his level 3 WSET wine exams, hosting regular wine tastings and travelling with his skill to some of the most iconic wine regions around the world.
Because of his passion and knowledge we are delighted to have him as part of the New Hall family as our first Ambassador, helping to showcase the delicious English Wines produced here in the Crouch Valley of Essex.
